Trained by Master teachers, Lucile v Evans & Dr Robert K Evans

Robert K. Evans, musicologist, linguist, and musician taught vocal literature with an emphasis on the interpretation of poetry and diction for forty years at the nation's leading music schools, including the New England Conservatory of Music, Indiana University, University of Cincinnati, and Columbia University's Teachers College. At both Cincinnati and Indiana, he established the vocal literature course for the Masters and Doctoral programs. His Ph.D. from the Ohio State University (1971) is in the dual fields of Slavic Linguistics and Musicology. Dr. Evans brought to his work with singers a speaking fluency in Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese and formal study of several others. An accomplished pianist, Robert Evans, collaborated with many composers, such as Francis Poulenc, Ned Rorem, Carlisle Floyd to name a few. In addition, he concertized extensively with Eleanor Steber, Jennie Tourel, Hans Hotter, Italo Tajo,  Renato Capecchi, among many others. Together with his wife, Lucile V. Evans they have many former students singing in the best opera houses of Europe and North America.

Her teacher's perspective

Maria Ventura is a great performer, and her beautiful voice and fine technique make her exceptional. Her extensive performance experience in Europe and in the States, and her ability in German, French, and Italian are fine assets. Her deep knowledge of repertoire and innate feel for performance and interpretation benefit all her students.
Certainly Maria has excellent qualifications but, my endorsement for Maria comes from watching her teach, and seeing and hearing the results. I have watched her teach students from early grade school level to college level, and I heard these students perform. I've been especially delighted to watch her convey sound principals for technique and interpretation to very young singers, thus helping them safely sing repertoire from Broadway to opera to pop. It's gratifying to see how natural it can be for young singers!
We have taught master classes together. We've shared a decades-long fascination with and dialog about how to teach in a way that feels intuitive to each student, and how to reveal the vocal quality that resides in each singer.
What a resume cannot show is Maria's boundless energy, generous spirit, warmth, humor, creativity, and her ability to engage with very young as well as advanced students. All her students know that she is absolutely committed to them, and that propels them to do their best.

Lucile V. Evans
Lucile Villeneuve Evans, mezzo soprano, has had a long career as a vocal teacher with a specialty as a recitalist performer, especially in the French repertoire. She has served on the voice faculty at Indiana University, University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, Columbia University’s Teacher’s College, University of Louisville, McGill University Schulich School of Music, the AIMS program in Graz, Austria, the University of Miami Summer Program in Salzburg, Austria, and workshops in Innsbruck, Austria, and Urbania, Italy.
Her students have enjoyed careers as both performers and teachers. Former students have been engaged at international opera companies including, among others, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Paris’ la Bastille, London’s Convent Garden, Milan’s la Scala, Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper, Opera Berlin, Brussel's Theatre Royal de La Monnaie and Vienna’s Staatsoper, Bayreuth, and the Salzburger Musikfestival. Her students have also found careers on Broadway, film and television.
Ms. Evans’ dynamic approach to singing holistically combines vocal technique, stage deportment, and song interpretation. Her imaginative techniques continue to yield quick results for her numerous students.
Ms. Evans currently resides in New York’s Hudson River Valley, and enjoys working with both professional singers on role preparation and vocal technique, and young singers on technique, interpretation, and audition preparation.
